QGIS Project Update → January 25, 2025

WARNING: Beginning with this update post, novaTopFlex will begin utilizing Unicode characters that may not display properly on rare and legacy systems.

As of January 25, the novaTop QGIS Project has continued the journey of the creation of polygons through the majority of Indiana and is currently on track to approach the western border of the state. Expect additional coverage in the northern and western counties of Indiana (and into Michigan) prior to significant additions to coverage in Illinois (and Wisconsin).

QGIS Project Update — January 18, 2025

The novaTop QGIS project to advocate for OpenStreetMap contribution and incentivize newfound interests is currently focusing on the media markets of Indianapolis and Fort Wayne, quickly transitioning toward more westerly regions of Indiana and, subsequently, Illinois, as well. So far, most of Indiana east of Interstate 69 and south of US 224 has been covered with the advocacy polygons that are expected to be published online soon.

QGIS Project Update

novaTopFlex has just completed coverage of most of Indiana south of Interstate 70, except within Indianapolis and Marion County. The project is attempting to create polygons trending northward throughout Indiana and Illinois, with upcoming focuses in the Northeastern United States, particularly in Pennsylvania and Maryland. In Illinois, the areas above the Kaskaskia River, including the Metro East region, will also be covered soon.

novaTop Geography

novaTopFlex is actively seeking furthered interests in open technology, open science, and open mapping. For the geographical context specifically, open mapping is actively being worked on as an OpenStreetMap contributor. Using the GIS software can be a daunting task, and the polygons that are being created for contribution and other geographic interests and purposes can be easily manipulated. The computer may crash, the file may be lost, and other issues may occur at some eventual time in the future. A sufficient amount of storage space must be maintained at all times, and the geography interests can be extremely difficult at times. Currently, novaTopFlex is interested in assistance in southern and central Indiana and Illinois, and will slowly gain more northerly interests over time.
