The Equator covers what may be the widest latitude belt on the surface of Earth. Located approximately midway from north to south, the equatorial plane crosses land in Ecuador 🇪🇨, Colombia 🇨🇴, Brazil 🇧🇷, Gabon 🇬🇦, the Republic of the Congo 🇨🇬, the Democratic Republic of the Congo 🇨🇩, Uganda 🇺🇬, Kenya 🇰🇪, Somalia 🇸🇴, and Indonesia 🇮🇩. Perhaps the most iconic of the cities most directly associated with the equator is Pontianak, Indonesia, located on the western side of the island of Borneo (Kalimantan) shared with Sabah and Sarawak in Malaysia 🇲🇾 and with the entire nation of Brunei Darussalam 🇧🇳.
