Introduction
Located in the relatively northern portion of the State of Iowa, Fort Dodge represents a community home to the Fort Museum and Frontier Village and the Blanden Memorial Art Museum, both located within Webster County. The city serves as the county seat of Webster County and is surrounded entirely by rural territory, as is the case with a number of smaller cities in the nation.
Surrounding Attractions
Outside the City of Fort Dodge, external attractions are often located at relatively modest distances from the inner city and community. The community of Britt, Hancock County, Iowa, is home to the National Hobo Museum and the National Hobo Convention, located relatively along Route 18. To the west, a number of smaller communities also dot the landscape of the region, including Sac City, the county seat of Sac County, home to the world’s largest popcorn ball. Storm Lake, located in Buena Vista County further northwest, is home to the Harker Museum and Buena Vista University, as well as the eponymous Storm Lake to the south. Further northwest is the City of Le Mars, serving as the county seat of Plymouth County, with a number of art exhibitions within city limits, plus the Plymouth County Historical Museum and the Plymouth County Fairgrounds in the general area. To the south is the City of Audubon, the county seat of Audubon County, Iowa, home to Albert the Bull Park and the world’s largest bull figure. Also nearby is the City of Denison, located in Crawford County and home to the Donna Reed Foundation.
