Within the State of Maryland, as with Massachusetts further north, the relatively small land area is actually home to distinct cultural regions including, albeit not limited to, the Appalachian region in the west, the Blue Ridge further east nearer Hagerstown, the in-state portion of the BosWash corridor, and even the Eastern Shore. Within each individual region, and occasionally between regions, the State of Maryland is highly identified as culturally diverse, with the Harriet Tubman sites in the east giving way to the Chesapeake Bay and interior region further west. Apart from such regions, the State of Maryland is also home to numerous Potomac River interests, though the Potomac, Rappahannock, and York Rivers flow into the Chesapeake Bay before the Atlantic Ocean.
