Introduction
The Fediverse is identified by anti-corporate ideologies with the ActivityPub protocol. However, if a service does not support the ActivityPub protocol, then by definition, the service cannot be identified within the definition of the Fediverse.
Independent Blog Sites
Located within the perspective of the Fediverse is typically Mastodon, Lemmy, PeerTube, PixelFed, Akkoma, Pleroma, Misskey, WriteFreely, and numerous smaller social networking sites, as well as select sites powered by WordPress, of which this website is one such site. However, independent blog sites, even if they can capture the spirit of the Fediverse, can never be identified as part of the Fediverse if not already compatible with the ActivityPub protocol.
Services Not Typically Included within the Fediverse
Usually, if a site on WordPress is powered by WordPress.org, rather than WordPress.com, then the site is not compatible with the ActivityPub protocol and thus cannot be identified as part of the Fediverse. Typically, related services, such as Proton Mail and the remainder of the Proton family, are not identified within the Fediverse because mailing services are not typically compatible with ActivityPub. The ActivityPub protocol also does not extend into the independent publication sites, such as LibCom or otherwise lesser-known sites.
