Delaware is a Mid-Atlantic to Southern border state in the United States of America, on the East Coast facing the Atlantic Ocean with the second-smallest land area of states in the nation. Only Rhode Island is smaller by area, but like in Rhode Island, the Atlantic coastline is very important to life in the State. The major bay of the State is the Delaware Bay, while the state capital city is the City of Dover. The State contains exactly three (3) counties, from north to south New Castle, Kent, and Sussex. The respective county seats are Wilmington, Dover, and Georgetown, and only Sussex County actually touches the open Atlantic Ocean and contains the beaches and resort villages for the entire State, as well as early Dutch history at the old Zwaanendael Colony at present-day Lewes.
