Introduction
The City of Calais is the largest municipality in Washington County though the third-smallest in the entire State of Maine. Of the twenty-three cities of Maine, Calais is located along the Saint Croix River opposite the larger City of Saint Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada 🇨🇦. Though not a tourist destination like the Canadian counterpart, the City of Calais does continue to recognize Wabanaki heritage to a disproportionate extent, with the Wabanaki Culture Center taking pride in the Down East community.
