Introduction
Though Worcester is significantly larger and more centrally located in Worcester County, Massachusetts, with Fitchburg further northwest in the same county, both communities are notable for containing very similar, if not identical, amenities. The City of Worcester is home to the Worcester Art Museum and Worcester State University, while the City of Fitchburg is home to the Fitchburg Art Museum and Fitchburg State University.
Worcester vs. Fitchburg
While the City of Worcester is most notable for Worcester State University in the west, two additional universities, albeit private, are also located within city limits. Further south is Clark University, and further north is Assumption University. Within the central and eastern portions of the City of Worcester, in which much of the general population resides, numerous traditional neighborhoods are identified with more localized attractions in the downtown area and larger amenities on the outskirts, as with many related communities. On the south side of the city is the Blackstone River and valley, flowing into the Narragansett Bay at Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The Vida Boutique Inn is also an iconic place slightly south within Worcester, while the EcoTarium is a museum representing science in the eastern part of the city.
Within the City of Fitchburg, the Gallery Marquee, the Boulder Art Gallery, and the Fitchburg Historical Society are largely representative of the central city area. Fitchburg State University is to the east, and the Fitchburg Town Pound is to the west.
