While many individuals and communities alike are compelled to believe that capitalism is “human nature” and that the common good is “socialism,” the truth is that universal healthcare and social safety nets are absolutely essential for mitigating the effects of existing capitalist crises. Additionally, the politics and corporations behind maintaining the status quo are actually maintaining harmful operations and then blaming the individuals for the actions that were not inherently caused individually. The blame always seems to shift onto the individuals rather than the corporations and the ultra-wealthy benefiting from the status as polluters.
By shifting the blame to the source rather than deflecting on the individual, society can and will become more conducive to critical thinkers and become more tolerant to existing philosophers. With the philosophical arguments against capitalism, “personal responsibility” can no longer be emphasized and glorified, and the common good can return to the true position in human nature.
