Introduction
Unlike the vast majority of the common conception of the State of Arizona, the City of Flagstaff is actually quite a humid city with a cooler climate given the higher elevation of the community. Located today within Coconino County, Arizona, the community is most notable as a tourist destination, with Grand Canyon located nearby to the northwest and Petrified Forest nearby to the east into Navajo and Apache Counties.
Inner Amenities
Within the inner City of Flagstaff, the most notable features are Northern Arizona University and the Riordan Mansion State Historic Park, while the Museum of Northern Arizona is located further north along Route 180 and the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument is located northeast along Route 89. Also on the north side of the city is the Arizona Snowbowl, identified as a relatively notable ski resort in the vicinity.
Sedona
To the south of the City of Flagstaff is the City of Sedona, partially within Yavapai County, home to the Seven Sacred Pools and the Sedona Heritage Museum.
Prescott
More centrally located within Yavapai County, the City of Prescott is located substantially to the north of Phoenix and is home to the Yavapai-Prescott Indian Tribe, the Sharlot Hall Museum, and the Museum of Indigenous People. The Phippen Museum is located further to the northeast, still within the general location associated with Route 89 traversing the region. On the western side of the city, the Prescott Frontier Days often identify themselves as the “World’s Oldest Rodeo” for the historical significance of rodeo culture associated with the general area.
