Introduction
The Town of Beals is located on islands opposite the Down East fishing community of Jonesport, Washington County, Maine. The island is located fairly southwest in the county, relative to the county seat at Machias, Maine, on the mainland.
Islands
The Town of Beals, Maine, is an island community primarily on Beals and Great Wass Islands. Great Wass Island contains a nature preserve covering much of the area as well as the town park to the north, while the vast majority of the few hundred residents reside on Beals Island, accessible by Bridge Street from Jonesport, so no ferry service is required.
