Hype for the Future 95/284: Ohio State Route 73

Introduction

Within the State of Ohio, Route 73 is an east-west state highway that services the communities between the cities of Oxford in the west and Portsmouth in the east. Between the vicinity of Wilmington and Hillsboro, the state highway serves the role of a regional freeway; however, many of the more rural stretches elsewhere are simply two-lane roads.

Communities

Within the State of Ohio, Route 73 is notable for serving communities in Butler, Warren, Clinton, Highland, Adams, and Scioto Counties. The most notable portions of the highway are the City of Oxford in the west and the City of Portsmouth in the east, providing access to Miami University and Shawnee State University, respectively. The City of Wilmington is home to the private Wilmington College and is bypassed by the freeway portion of the highway, strategically configured to serve the situation within Appalachian Ohio.

Apart from the aforementioned communities, the route also covers Trenton, Middletown, Springboro, Waynesville, Harveysburg (home to the Ohio Renaissance Festival), and the Peebles area (including Serpent Mound).

Freeway Billboards are Banned in Four States.

Overview

Within the United States of America, nearly every state permits billboards on freeways throughout the nation. However, four (4) states, all identifiable by natural beauty and tourist interests, actually ban freeway billboards, though not freeways themselves: Vermont, Maine, Alaska, and Hawaii. Therefore, novaTopFlex would not have a freeway billboard in the most realistic of realistic contexts, and even if the Three Identities had billboards, the coverage would likely prioritize the states on the Eastern Seaboard from Massachusetts through Virginia. However, the ideal billboards for novaTopFlex would say “EXPLORE THE THREE IDENTITIES.”

State Routes

Throughout much of the New England region, state highway numbers can be redundant with one another quite intentionally, in numerous cases as a direct vestige to the New England Interstate Highway System. Though Route 2 in Massachusetts actually extends into New York retaining the same number, most of the routes that continue on into the latter will change route numbers at the state line.

Perhaps the most iconic of the New England routes to remain intact into the modern day are Route 8 of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont; Route 9 of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine; Route 10 of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire; Route 11 of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine; Route 12 of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont; and Route 13 of Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
