Eric Hopkins
Born in Bangor, Maine, in 1951 to a family whose patriarchal lineage is descended from Revolutionary War Veteran Theophilus Hopkins, who has been awarded land from the federal government for his involvement in the American Revolution. The land grant to Theophilus Hopkins and his heirs was located on the island of Vinalhaven, though branches of the family have also expanded into the neighboring island of North Haven as well as the mainland area of Rockland, the county seat of Knox County, Maine. Today, the Eric Hopkins Art Gallery is located along United States Route 1 in Rockland, Maine, relatively north in the downtown area toward Rockport and Camden.
The Islands of the Hopkins Family
Located within the MidCoast region of the State of Maine are the islands of Vinalhaven and North Haven. Vinalhaven is notable for the aforementioned Hopkins family land grant from the American Revolution, while North Haven is the island with the Hopkins Wharf family gallery as well as the family-operated gift shop next door.
