Introduction
Though the Village of Oak Hill in Jackson County, Ohio, has a permanent population of under 1,500 residents, the community often appears to have a significantly larger personality for such a small town, containing the world’s largest acorn figure as well as a prominent sense of pride in the Welsh heritage associated with the region. The Welsh American Heritage Museum is located to the south within the village, while the outskirts include a number of scenic rural attractions of different categories.
Vicinity
Within the general vicinity of the Village of Oak Hill, the State of Ohio maintains Jackson Lake State Park directly to the west and the more distant Cooper-Hollow Wildlife Area to the northeast, along with a few notable furnaces throughout, particularly around the latter, with a few identified as living history museums for Appalachian Ohio. The furnaces around the Oak Hill community also continue south along Route 93 well into Lawrence County, including, but not limited to, the Olive Furnace and the Etna Iron Furnace.
