Hype for the Future 65/284: Town of Provincetown, Massachusetts

Introduction

The Town of Provincetown is located at the tail end of Cape Cod in Barnstable County, Massachusetts. At the side of the Pilgrims’ Landing of 1620, Provincetown today maintains ferry access to Boston and Plymouth on the opposite side of Massachusetts Bay.

Importance

The Town of Provincetown, Massachusetts, is a regional hub for the LGBTQIA+ community and is associated with the summer season, similar to the numerous communities of coastal Maine. Within Barnstable County, Massachusetts, the Town of Provincetown is also identified as a regional hub for the occasional year-round settlers of the regional population of artists, lesbians, and gays, thus representing a queer haven providing particular safety for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Geography

The Town of Provincetown is effectively located at the tail end of the Cape Cod Peninsula, with the Provincetown Harbor in the vicinity and the general area of the Massachusetts Bay primarily to the west with the open Atlantic Ocean to the north. To the south is the particular portion of the Massachusetts Bay known as the Cape Cod Bay, with the latter identified as defining lie throughout the general Cape Cod region.

Transportation

The Town of Provincetown is primarily served by United States Route 6, accessible from the SouthCoast and surrounding regions, though the ferry services also provide access to Boston and Plymouth opposite the Massachusetts Bay and the Cape Cod Bay, respectively. Though Route 6 serves the role of the principal artery through the town, Commercial Street, a parallel street just to the south, provides the vast majority of amenities for the community.

Attractions

In the outlying areas associated with Provincetown, the extreme end of Cape Cod, Wood End, is home to the Long Point Light Station. Further into the Commonwealth is the site of the Race Point Lighthouse, with the Province Lands Visitor Center and Provincetown Municipal Airport areas located nearby and largely to the east. Now on the eastern end of Provincetown facing the open Atlantic Ocean, the community also contains dune shacks, including the historic district of the Dune Shacks of Peaked Hill Bars. The Fowler, Frenchie’s, and Grail Dune Shacks are located within the limits of Provincetown, while the Ray Wells Dune Shack is located within the town limits of nearby Truro.

Commercial Street (Massachusetts Route 6A)

Along Commercial Street in the Town of Provincetown, the LGBTQIA+-friendly attractions and amenities for the community include nineteenth-century homes as well as lively art galleries, restaurants (particularly the obvious seafood restaurants serving the community), and cafés. At the southern end of Commercial Street is the Pilgrims’ First Landing Park, while at the northern end, also in the relatively outlying area, is the DNA Gallery. Hype for the Future 61G: A New Year’s Eve Special

New Year’s Eve 2025

The end of the year 2025 brings each of us our unique and distinct experiences, regardless of whatever corner of the world we have lived under throughout the course of the year. For those of us, myself included, in the United States of America, regardless of where specifically we have been located in the nation, we have experienced significant turmoil, especially involving rollbacks to LGBTQIA+ legal protections following the erosion of human rights that had run rampant since 2022. Society continues to experience moral panics to this day, and cell phone bans in the K-12 schools have become a serious concern, while the nation claims to provide itself on safety.

Unfortunately, hate and discrimination have been at the forefront of American politics throughout the course of the year, and a new phrase was coined early on in the year that had not been used in Trump’s first term: “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” Unlike the first Trump regime, the current Trump regime is forcing capitalism and now involved in a new Red Scare against not just communists, but also socialists, anarchists, lesbians, gays, queers, trans, intersex, aromantics, asexuals, and other non-normative groups. Rollbacks and reversions to traditional gender and other social roles have especially been a key issue in the Southern United States, where the idea of hyper-individualism and capitalist “success” myths are especially rampant.

As we close the year 2025 (or open the year 2026, depending on when you are viewing this message), we are unfortunately stuck living under the Trump regime in the United States of America, with cultural hegemony unlikely to diffuse in the near future. Additional governmental control beyond the debt crises will result in increasingly worse living conditions for society across the United States of America and even internationally in less capitalist nations.

Hype for the Future 57F: Cultural Traits of New England

Overview

The New England states are often focused on true safety and authenticity, even while much of the remaining areas of the United States celebrate the stereotypical ideology of capitalism and stunted right-wing politics. However, each of the six (6) New England states can also maintain quite distinct cultural traits even compared to each other, so the general beliefs shall be separated as such:

New England At-Large

• Arts and crafts are civic institutions that are necessary for a functioning society.
• Society cannot be created individually, but collectively.
• People should identify with communities at the city, town, or plantation level first—not necessarily with the largest city in the region.

Northern New England

• Nature is a precious resource and must be protected to the greatest extent possible.
• Excessive infrastructure is unnatural and a burden on the true environmental surroundings.

Southern New England

• History is a civic duty and must be carefully documented to preserve the common good.
• Residents should embrace the special and unique characteristics of their respective cities and towns.

Maine

• Hikers should not be pressured nor coerced into more difficulty than functionally allowed.
• Parklands and forest areas shall be protected to preserve the natural landscape*
  • Unfortunately, in the Aroostook Valley in particular, that value cannot withstand the realities of the Canadian industries of logging and timber.

New Hampshire

• Erosions are a natural feature of the planet, so memories shall be preserved beyond such events (especially at the Old Man of the Mountain).
• The extreme weather at the top of Mount Washington shall be treated as an asset, not as a liability.

Vermont

• Maple should be treated as a civic duty for every Vermonter.
• People should embrace the natural beauty at every corner within the State.
• Residents of Grand Isle County should be proud of living inside Lake Champlain.
• Though not everyone in Vermont can or wants to ski, people should give common courtesy and caution when interacting with skiers and resort staff.
• Every resident should have an equal voice to one another, regardless of race, sex, gender, identity, sexuality, disability, previous condition, faith, religion, or any other dimension of diversity.

Massachusetts

• Locals and visitors alike should receive common courtesy regardless of the specific city or town.
• People should use their best judgment while not assuming features that do not exist.
• Connection, trust, and respect should be top priorities—never stereotypes nor tradition.

Rhode Island

• Residents should be warned about climate risks when approaching coastal and island areas.

Connecticut

• Plurality is not a weakness but a strength, regardless of any external pressures that may indicate otherwise.

Hype for the Future 56P: New England First

The Policy

novaTopFlex content shall be adapted to serve the best interests of the community, prioritizing community values over corporate platforms without being outright hostile, especially on already corporatized platforms. Since communal values in the United States are most typically associated with New England, novaTopFlex shall prioritize the New England region above the remainder of the United States unless otherwise known anarchist and otherwise associated communities exist. Despite common perceptions from the mass media and from socialization by far too many, anarchists are not necessarily a danger unless guilty motives for anarchists also exist. Innocent motives may also exist, though anarchists may unfortunately be unwilling to serve society through taxes or other paycheck features. Therefore, common ground shall be identified by way of socialist perspectives.

Why New England?

Unlike the vast majority of the United States, which often worships suburbia and extractive cultural traits under the guise of “American” culture, the New England region actually represents historic sites and related areas of historical significance, often resulting in greater walkability within each region. However, even within the New England region, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is typically the most identifiable, while the State of Connecticut is significantly more suburban and the State of New Hampshire somewhat more traditional. Otherwise, the New England region can often lean more communally than much of the American interior and old frontier regions.

Hype for the Future 56A: The Major Towns of Vermont

Overview

Though many of the towns in the State of Vermont are often smaller than two thousand (2,000) permanent residents, select towns are actually more significant to the culture of the State, including Colchester, Bennington, Brattleboro, Woodstock, Saint Johnsbury, Rockingham, Hartford, Springfield, Stowe, and Derby, just to name a few of the more significant communities.

Town of Colchester

The Town of Colchester is located directly to the north of Burlington along United States Route 7 nearby to United States Route 2 in the surrounding area along Lake Champlain. A suburb of Burlington, the Town of Colchester serves the role of the largest town area in the State of Vermont by population and is located at the northern end of Chittenden County along the lake.

Town of Bennington

Notable for the Battle of Bennington, the Town of Bennington remains iconic as the south shire of Bennington County, Vermont. Along Route 7 south of Manchester and north of Williamstown and Williams College in Massachusetts, the Town of Bennington continues to maintain a significant modern presence. Located nearby to the north is the Southern Vermont Arts Center in the Town of Manchester, the north shire of the same Bennington County.

Town of Brattleboro

Like much of the State of Vermont, the Town of Brattleboro, located opposite New Hampshire along the Connecticut River, is notable for being a countercultural hub. In specifically Brattleboro is the Estey Organ Museum, while the town also hosts LGBTQIA+ pride events throughout the year and is a cultural draw for non-normative lifestyles and activists.

Town of Woodstock

The Town of Woodstock serves as the shire town (county seat) of Windsor County, Vermont, and is located primarily along United States Route 4 from east to west. In specifically the Town of Woodstock is the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park, though much of the remaining area in Vermont remains relatively typical of civilization within the State, including, but not limited to, the area of the town common typical to New England communities as a whole.

Town of Saint Johnsbury

Saint Johnsbury serves as the chief town and shire town of Caledonia County, Vermont, serving as the primary settlement of the Northeast Kingdom area of the State. Since no significant community exists in the neighboring Essex County of only around six thousand residents, Saint Johnsbury must serve the commercial interests of such county, the smallest in all of New England.

Town of Rockingham

Perhaps most notable as the location of Bellows Falls, the Town of Rockingham provides further insights as to the cultural backstory of the State and is home to the second location of the Vermont Country Store, whose primary location is in Weston along Route 100. Rockingham is primarily served by Route 103 with access to Interstate 91 and United States Route 5 also available.

Town of Hartford

The Town of Hartford is located directly opposite Lebanon, New Hampshire, which itself is adjacent to Hanover, New Hampshire, home to Dartmouth, the northernmost member of the Ivy League. The most important community area is White River Junction, located at the junctions of United States Routes 4 and 5 as well as Interstates 89 and 91, directly on the Vermont side of the Connecticut River.

Town of Springfield

The Eureka Schoolhouse is the most notable historic site associated with the Town of Springfield, one of the few village clusters within the southern portion of the State of Vermont south of Hartford. Located along the Connecticut River, the Town of Springfield is most obviously served by Route 11 with access to I-91 and Route 5 in the east.

Town of Stowe

The “Ski Capital of the East,” the Town of Stowe is perhaps most notable as a tourist destination rather than as a more residential or general-purpose community. The famous Stowe Mountain Resort is located in the northwestern portion of the Town around Mount Mansfield, with Smugglers’ Notch Resort further north into the Town of Cambridge. Located in Lamoille County, the Town of Stowe is also a safe haven for tourism for the LGBTQIA+ 🏳️‍🌈 community. Beyond the queer safety and the resort areas, the von Trapp Family Lodge & Resort area is in the southwest, with the centrally located Village of Stowe notable for tourist sites including the Green Mountain Inn and the neighboring Vermont Ski & Snowboard Museum.

Town of Derby

Located on the eastern shores of Lake Memphrémagog, the Town of Derby is the northernmost town along Route 5 as well as along I-91 within the State of Vermont. Two principal settlements are associated with the town, including the settlements at Derby Center as well as at Derby Line, the latter of which is shared with Stanstead, Québec, Canada. Within the latter is the international Haskell Free Library and Opera House, though attacks on Canadian access have remained ongoing nonetheless.

Introduction

In the Gregorian Calendar, Christmas Day is always exactly one week (seven days) prior to the New Year’s Day of the following year, thus resulting in the two holidays sharing the same day of the week. Though Christmas is a Christian holiday, the New Year is actually a purely calendar-related holiday, with New Year’s Eve referring to December 31 of the old year. January 1 is notable for an effective reset, though unfortunately, under any capitalist system, the date also represents the perpetuation of the capitalist crisis, unless and until the capitalist system can successfully be toppled.

Hype for the Future 54L: Traffic Network in Vermont

Overview

Of the fourteen (14) counties in the State of Vermont, Lamoille is the only county lacking any of the United States Numbered Highways (2, 4, 5, 7, and 302) associated with the State, though all ten (10) towns in the County are served by state routes such as Routes 12, 15, 100, 108, 109, and 118. The legal load limits are often 24,000 pounds on county-maintained and lesser routes, though many of the state routes can not actually be identified as truck routes in any meaningful way, often resulting in the creation of the occasional bypass routes specifically to serve truck traffic.

While Interstate Highways and United States Highways often exist to serve the truck traffic throughout the State of Vermont, most of the commercial traffic does not actually connect to Vermont at the beginning nor at the end, often having the State as a middle ground, typically between the southern New England states and New York to the south and Québec to the north, though the traffic from New York bound to Québec, Canada, will often be routed through the Plattsburgh area en route to Montréal.

Truck traffic is significantly less frequent in the east-west direction, especially since the State of Vermont maintains a localist culture and a preference for businesses in Vermont to stay rurally bound within the State of Vermont. However, the United States Highways of the east-west direction—Routes 2, 4, and 302—may occasionally seem to serve commercial purposes, though only in limited circumstances (Montpelier to Barre on Route 302, Montpelier to Burlington on Route 2, and around Rutland on Route 4).

Introduction

The Pioneer Valley region of Western Massachusetts is highly conducive to countercultural knowledge and reasoning, with Hampshire County often highlighting the countercultural significance and Hampden County to the south providing a plurality with additional cultural references. Located in Hampshire County is the Five College Consortium, connecting the colleges and universities of Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, Smith, and UMass Amherst with one another. Even outside of the official college locations, primarily in Amherst, the overarching atmosphere of the communities in question generally remains countercultural to a disproportionate extent.

Queer Havens

Especially in Hampshire County, and not just with the town or the gown, the communities remain aptly recognized as iconic queer havens, most notably Amherst, Northampton, and South Hadley. Though South Hadley and neighboring Hadley are each significantly smaller communities than the two more significant communities on either side of the Connecticut River, the community associated with Amherst is located to the east while the community associated with Northampton is located to the west. While Amherst maintains queer friendliness from the three colleges of the community, Northampton is more or less a queer feminist hub by way of Smith College though also a hub for numerous gay male and bisexual communities in the general population.

Northampton also serves as the county seat of Hampshire County, Massachusetts, bypassed by Interstate 91 and served primarily by United States Route 5 from north to south and by Massachusetts Route 9 from east to west. Though Route 5 services the community north from the Springfield, Chicopee, and Holyoke areas and south from the Greenfield and Deerfield areas, Route 9 is perhaps most notable for servicing the communities of Amherst and Northampton with Hadley in the middle as well as Pittsfield further west and Worcester County communities further east on the way to Boston.

Modern Issues

Unfortunately, capitalism is a crisis, resulting in privatization, the race to the bottom, profit maximization, and forced extraction, also all of which are crises. With each and every crisis comes the crisis of marketing, since marketing often demands on the end goal of a monopoly, very similar to the idea that monogamy is somehow “natural” for everyone. Unfortunately, racism, sexism, classism, ableism, and other discriminatory practices are just natural results of this issue, particularly with the economic system that incentivizes a monoculture to effectively worsen life conditions for all but the uppermost class.

Economic Crisis

The idea of “inflation” should be rethought of as a pay cut, since punishing restrictions are increasingly consequences of the capitalist system. By allowing governments more control over pricing and related capitalist issues, the obvious next issue would specifically refer to the restrictions and discriminatory practices and policies.

Networking

novaTopFlex shall restrict social networking to appropriately structured and organized spontaneous interactions, as such interactions are natural and can assist with ending the loneliness epidemic as well as common beliefs such as friendship as a consolation prize. In order to ensure maximum social throughput, every input must matter, so that every output can matter as a result. By focusing all attention on festivals and events, especially with the obvious true safety protocols (not the heteronormative protocols, of course), novaTopFlex shall maximize the social network that is necessary for the promotion of the channels, inputs, and outputs—all through networking.

Hype for the Future 16A: The Countercultural Movements of America

The most notable and interesting countercultural movements in the United States of America are largely identified by LGBTQIA+ culture and heritage traits. While LGBTQIA+ have existed long before such identities have become normalized in society, the historical shunning and taboos continue to linger into the modern day in the vast majority of spaces within the nation. novaTopFlex aspires to network with countercultural hubs, including hubs of movements outside the LGBTQIA+ and intersecting communities. Such communities include the vacation destinations of Provincetown (Ptown), Massachusetts; Fire Island Pines, New York; and Saugatuck, Michigan. Additionally, pockets exist within New York City (NYC), including all boroughs (but especially Manhattan and Brooklyn), Boston (especially in select neighborhoods within the inner city and across the Charles River in Cambridge, Somerville, and Medford), and even the Five Colleges communities of Northampton and Amherst. Although Cambridge is primarily renowned for prestige at Harvard and MIT, even outside the institutions the city remains quite a significant activist community. The same is also true of Somerville and Medford, where Tufts University dominates the cultural scene.

“Lazy” Days: Are They Really a Thing?

Anticapitalist Preamble

Global society at large often thinks that “lazy” days are very real and very much “unproductive” days when, in reality, these are the days in which we should feel relieved from menial labor. Unfortunately, we live in a capitalist society, which results in the cultural erasure of the communal values that humanity absolutely depends on for collective survival. Our society cannot stop degrading our natural environments, and because of this, “lazy” days must stop being regarded as “unproductive” and start being regarded as “restful.”

“Lazy”

Unfortunately, the term “lazy” has been co-opted by capitalism, which itself is a crisis economic system and has directly factored into numerous mental health crises at a global scale. Without capitalism, there would likely be fewer mental health crises, but even then, there would still be some level of mental health crises of concern.
