Introduction

Though Iceland overall is significantly more inclusive and progressive than the United States of America at any point in the history of the latter, the nations also contain relatively similar pockets, especially in the State of Vermont in the United States.

Inclusivity

While the State of Vermont is the American leader of inclusivity in terms of freedom of gender identity and expression, the entire sovereign nation of Iceland has a culture that makes gender seem antiquated as far back as the introduction of the Althing circa 932.

Introduction

Though Iceland has traditionally focused on collective survival over private coupledom, the national identity had largely been gendered, as with the vast majority of national identities elsewhere. In the case of the island nation, however, many of the gender markers have largely been reference markers rather than role enforcers, as in the following demonstrations:

Icelandic Names

In Iceland, traditional family names are largely encouraged, and the national registry maintains a particular list of Icelandic names as to ensure the continued survival of the Old Norse variants of names relatively near their original forms without Danish, Norwegian, or other outside interference. Rather than allowing for family customs from elsewhere to be imported, the nation enforces Icelandic names and naming systems, with official prefixes as necessary:

• -son (masculine)
• -dóttir (feminine)
• -bun (neuter)

The eth (ð) and thorn (þ) sounds are represented using the respective characters as listed in parentheses, with the eth being voiced and the thorn voiceless. For example, the following may be translated:

• Þórsson (Thor’s son)
• Þórsdóttir (Thor’s daughter)
• Þórsbun (Thor’s child)

Even though traditional gender markers continue to appear in Icelandic names at large, the official policies throughout the island are generally amongst the most liberating for LGBTQIA+ communities and additional gender identities. While gender markers in contexts elsewhere determine behavioral and social expectations alike, the Icelandic gender roles are generally more attached to purely reference points and factual information.

Introduction

Though Iceland has largely maintained a relatively plural culture for over a millennium, the term “heteronormativity” as utilized in the modern day has not existed as of yet. However, the Icelandic culture has largely avoided romantic and sexual centralization as with many European cultures elsewhere.

History

Much of what is today Iceland is largely determined by the Viking settlers, largely associated with a region that has traditionally spanned the island, the Faroe Islands, and much of Norway at the very beginning. With Iceland as an isolated area, many of the folk songs associated with the isolated nation have developed relatively conservatively, including bypassing the heteronormative societal expectations that have largely occurred elsewhere.

Hype for the Future 65F: Historic City of Saint Augustine, Florida

Introduction

Though Saint Augustine was not settled as part of British Colonial America but as part of New Spain in early European imperialism, the community of Saint Augustine has since been transformed by the Flagler heritage representative of the entirety of the modern State of Florida, and especially Northern Florida.

History

Founded by the Spanish in 1565, Saint Augustine has largely been identified by the iconic structures associated with the community, including the Ponce de León Hotel which has since evolved into the central hall of Flagler College. Today, Flagler College hosts not just admission-related college tours, but also college tours specifically dedicated to the history of Saint Augustine as a community for the general public, thanks to the former land uses associated with the Flagler College campus.

Fort Matanzas

Far to the south of the City of Saint Augustine, but still related to Route A1A and the historic Spanish settlers, was the historic site of Fort Matanzas, now maintained by the National Park Service as the Fort Matanzas National Monument. Today, the area is identified as being situated on a salt marsh, though the ferry service associated with the monument is typically decommissioned every Tuesday and Wednesday. Opposite the Matanzas River from the barrier island of Anastasia, the community is strictly identified by the Floridian and earlier Spanish heritage of the general coastal and subtropical area.

Anastasia Island

At the northern end of Anastasia Island in the City of Saint Augustine is the Saint Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime Museum, which, unlike much of the State of Florida overall, may actually be LGBTQIA+ 🏳️‍🌈-friendly when interpreting the historical significance of the area. The museum area is also popularly identified by an 1874 black-and-white striped lighthouse and an embedded shipyard playground located at the museum site.

Urban Form

Though the City of Saint Augustine was identified as a settlement associated with New Spain, the community was also developed in an organic pattern surprisingly similar to the numerous communities of the New England colonies, though the significantly flatter area and Spanish settlement patterns had also influenced the Floridian urban form. Since the city was first established in 1565 near the mouths of the Matanzas and San Sebastián Rivers, the City of Saint Augustine has maintained an urban form oriented from south to north. Today, however, the rural fringe area is also home to the Saint Augustine Aquarium along Route 16 nearer Interstate 95 further west.

Introduction

The Town of Nantucket is the sole town in the consolidated town-county arrangement of Nantucket County, Massachusetts. Though not as notable for the LGBTQIA+ 🏳️‍🌈 population as the Cape Cod area, including Provincetown, the island of Nantucket offers seclusion that may provide privacy and security for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, and aromantic/asexual community, albeit on a different register.

Notable Attractions

The bulk of attractions on the island of Nantucket of historical significance are of women in STEM, in particular Maria Mitchell, a notable astronomer from the island area. The Maria Mitchell Observatory is an observatory named in her honor, though the aquarium of the island is also named for her, along with numerous representative facilities located both in the village area and potentially elsewhere on the island.

First Sunrise?

Scientists observing the times of the sunrises along the eastern seaboard of the United States have debated the location of the first sunrise in the contiguous United States, which usually varies between Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park in the winter months, Mars Hill in Aroostook County in the summer months, and the Lubec/West Quoddy Head area around both equinoxes. However, at the beginning of the new millennium, referring to 2000, the first sunrise over CONUS was measured as being reported at the Siasconset village area on Nantucket, Massachusetts, rather than being located within the more easterly State of Maine.

Ferry Service

Four (4) ferry routes are identified regarding access to Nantucket Island on Google Maps. While Google may not necessarily provide the most accurate nor up-to-date coverage of ferry routes, especially regarding seasonal ferries, the island is currently identified as being accessible from elsewhere in the Commonwealth exclusively by ferry (and the same is true for Martha’s Vineyard to the west, by the way).

From Straight Wharf, the Nantucket ferry provides access to the Port of Harwich on the mainland in the southern portion of Barnstable County, Massachusetts. From Steamboat Wharf, access is provided to the communities of New Bedford on the South Coast in Bristol County, Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard in Dukes County, and the village area of Hyannis in Barnstable County.

Outlying Villages

The outlying villages of the Island, Town, and County of Nantucket include the villages of Siasconset, Wauwinet, Polpis, Tom Nevers, Dionis, Eel Point, and Madaket. Siasconset is located at the eastern edge of Nantucket County and is often shortened to ‘Sconset and home to the ‘Sconset Foot Bridge, while the village of Wauwinet contains a five-star hotel in the area. Altar Rock, the Sankaty Head Lighthouse, and the Barnard Valley Road Viewpoint are each located within the outlying areas to the east, with Nobadeer Beach to the south and Madaket Beach to the west.

Though not in the central village area of Nantucket, the town is also home to the seasonal Nantucket Shipwreck and Life Saving Museum. However, within the true village area are numerous arts galleries, including Arts Nantucket and the Nantucket Gallery at the southern end, as well as the Barn, the Old Mill, the Museum of African American History, the Loines Observatory, and the numerous exhibits and tourist sites associated with astronomer Maria Mitchell further north. Introduction

The Town of Provincetown is located at the tail end of Cape Cod in Barnstable County, Massachusetts. At the side of the Pilgrims’ Landing of 1620, Provincetown today maintains ferry access to Boston and Plymouth on the opposite side of Massachusetts Bay.

Importance

The Town of Provincetown, Massachusetts, is a regional hub for the LGBTQIA+ community and is associated with the summer season, similar to the numerous communities of coastal Maine. Within Barnstable County, Massachusetts, the Town of Provincetown is also identified as a regional hub for the occasional year-round settlers of the regional population of artists, lesbians, and gays, thus representing a queer haven providing particular safety for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Geography

The Town of Provincetown is effectively located at the tail end of the Cape Cod Peninsula, with the Provincetown Harbor in the vicinity and the general area of the Massachusetts Bay primarily to the west with the open Atlantic Ocean to the north. To the south is the particular portion of the Massachusetts Bay known as the Cape Cod Bay, with the latter identified as defining lie throughout the general Cape Cod region.

Transportation

The Town of Provincetown is primarily served by United States Route 6, accessible from the SouthCoast and surrounding regions, though the ferry services also provide access to Boston and Plymouth opposite the Massachusetts Bay and the Cape Cod Bay, respectively. Though Route 6 serves the role of the principal artery through the town, Commercial Street, a parallel street just to the south, provides the vast majority of amenities for the community.

Attractions

The Fowler, Frenchie’s, and Grail Dune Shacks are located within the limits of Provincetown, while the Ray Wells Dune Shack is located within the town limits of nearby Truro.

Along Commercial Street in the Town of Provincetown, the LGBTQIA+-friendly attractions and amenities for the community include nineteenth-century homes as well as lively art galleries, restaurants (particularly the obvious seafood restaurants serving the community), and cafés. At the southern end of Commercial Street is the Pilgrims’ First Landing Park, while at the northern end, also in the relatively outlying area, is the DNA Gallery. Preamble

novaTopFlex has, for many years, been taught that the friendships and other social connections of today have been understood as impossible per societal expectation. While the teachings were appropriate for the early years for sure, the ultimate reality is very different with the social life of novaTopFlex, with not one, nor two, but Three Identities.

Introduction

In the lesbian, gay, queer, trans, bi, queer/questioning, and aroace community, as well as otherwise non-normative communities (and not just for gender or sexuality), individuals and groups have often relied on public appearance in order to minimize potential sources of confusion. Long-distance relationships are often integral to LGBTQIA+ life, especially as political differences can result in social ostracism in many home cities and towns, especially in the Southern United States.

Ekistics

Within the LGBTQIA+ community, political backgrounds are essential in addition to specific population densities and types of settlements. Though density can indeed increase visibility and, paradoxically, anonymity, the population size is often what matters more than the population density. Ultimately, however, the primary factor in LGBTQIA+ lifestyles is the political background of each community, thus the prominence of communities of modest size—between 25,000 and 99,999 residents. Urban cores are often preferred, along with urban clusters, while suburbia 🏘️, especially in its modern form, is often hostile to non-normative lifestyles and enforces gender and sexuality stereotypes by design.

Unfortunately, the economic system of the modern United States of America results in the privatization of the lives of the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as their further marginalization by the federal, state, and local governments across the nation. Ironically, for every attack on trans rights in conservative areas and societies, predominantly in the South, the Northern states are often either unscathed or oriented toward celebration and the continued occurrence of Pride events. Though Pride events can often feel performative in much of the nation, such events in truly walkable cities and towns, especially downtown (where such communities are typically the most walkable), genuine performances can occur without questioning at an extensive level.

Political Influence

Regarding the situation with politics, the LGBTQIA+ community is dependent on progressives and progressive policies, often for the purpose of survival, as right-leaning communities are often dangerous for the political leanings of the subcultural population of the community. Pride flags may be taken down, and occasionally otherwise forbidden, in such communities; however, in more liberal and progressive-leaning communities, many of the same actions can often be celebrated instead.

In general, the political leanings most conducive to nonconforming gender and sexuality identities are physically located in only a handful of regions within the United States of America, occasionally related to elite colleges and universities, but often in larger areas and in specific regions of the nation. Usually, the areas most likely to be considered include the Northeast Megalopolis, especially New England, as well as the areas further west into upper New York, Michigan, Wisconsin, and even throughout Minnesota. Of the aforementioned regions, communities in Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine, and Minnesota can often stand out, albeit for different historical reasons.

LGBTQIA+ and Pride 🏳️‍🌈 Hubs

The primary lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, aromantic, and asexual communities are located within the coastal areas of the United States of America, including, but not limited to, the areas throughout the Northeast Megalopolis as well as Provincetown on Cape Cod; Northampton, Massachusetts, and the surrounding Pioneer Valley; Astoria, Oregon; and select communities in the Bay Area in California, particularly further into San Francisco. While the interior hubs are often interior secrets, the general pattern is that more progressive regions of the interior, often further north, are generally more tolerant to outsiders and the queer community.

Interior Queer Communities

While the East Coast is notable for Provincetown, Massachusetts; and Fire island Pines, New York; the interior of the United States of America also contains queer communities along Lake Michigan in such resort areas as South Haven and Saugatuck on the Michigan side as well as the areas along the lake in Wisconsin such as Manitowoc.

Even further inland, beyond even the Great Lakes region, queer safety can often be identified at festivals and events in the region as far west as Minnesota in numerous situations. Such events include the Minnesota State Fair, which celebrates statewide heritage and around two-fifths of the state population (since around two million people attend the Minnesota State Fair each year), as well as the different personalities, identities, and other features of diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the State.

Overview

The State of Vermont often ranks as among the most liberal and progressive of states within the entire United States of America. However, the idea that Vermont is the most liberal of all states is often contested with Hawaii, though the latter is significantly more urbanized while the former also takes pride in rural cultural traits.

Population

Though the United States and numerous other developed nations are declining in birth rates, with latter generations often having lower birth rates than former generations nowadays following the generational peak of births circa 2007, the State of Vermont often lacks the performative population pressures that define other states in the Union. On a separate note, however, the State of Vermont is also a state with a relatively older median age, in which the elderly population can have a disproportionate influence on the associated demographics. Unfortunately, however, the State is often shared with Maine as having some of the least racial and ethnic diversity of any state population in the entire United States of America, with an extremely low percentage of racial minorities living within the boundaries of the State. Unlike the State of Maine, however, the population of the State of Vermont is typically more protective of environmental causes and often focuses more on the long-term environmental survival than on short-term profits or other economic gains or benefits.

Politics

The State of Vermont is most typically identifiable by progressive policies, renewable energy, and the significant production of maple syrup, with around half of the national supply for the entire United States of America. Politically a queer haven, numerous signs in the State of Vermont at single-user bathrooms and other facilities will often include the official symbols in the name of trans ⚧️ if the available restrooms are safe havens to be utilized by people of any gender identity or expression, especially protective in a state that prioritizes a genuine sense of safety over performance of the same.

Modern Issues

Unfortunately, capitalism is a crisis, resulting in privatization, the race to the bottom, profit maximization, and forced extraction, also all of which are crises. With each and every crisis comes the crisis of marketing, since marketing often demands on the end goal of a monopoly, very similar to the idea that monogamy is somehow “natural” for everyone. Unfortunately, racism, sexism, classism, ableism, and other discriminatory practices are just natural results of this issue, particularly with the economic system that incentivizes a monoculture to effectively worsen life conditions for all but the uppermost class.

Economic Crisis

The idea of “inflation” should be rethought of as a pay cut, since punishing restrictions are increasingly consequences of the capitalist system. By allowing governments more control over pricing and related capitalist issues, the obvious next issue would specifically refer to the restrictions and discriminatory practices and policies.

Networking

novaTopFlex shall restrict social networking to appropriately structured and organized spontaneous interactions, as such interactions are natural and can assist with ending the loneliness epidemic as well as common beliefs such as friendship as a consolation prize. In order to ensure maximum social throughput, every input must matter, so that every output can matter as a result. By focusing all attention on festivals and events, especially with the obvious true safety protocols (not the heteronormative protocols, of course), novaTopFlex shall maximize the social network that is necessary for the promotion of the channels, inputs, and outputs—all through networking.

Hype for the Future 53D: Safety is a Punishment (LGBTQIA+)

Introduction

The idea of “safety” is actually a punishing idea in lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex, and aromantic/asexual communities, specifically, because of the idea that safety requires restriction and obscurity. However, obscurity is, ironically, dangerous in select categories within the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly because of the social stigma associated with “coming out.”

Consequences of Safety

When society at large refers to “safety,” the truth about the definition is that safety refers to obscurity, which is unfortunately a misalignment of what true safety is within society. The concept of “safety” is only based on the assumption that everyone is straight and made to be straight and married, so queerness is often discouraged or otherwise oppressed.

“Personal responsibility” refers to the individualist belief that there is only one correct way to live. Such a belief is actually untrue, and nearly all opportunities in modern society are unethical to begin with. The privatization crisis results in the slow and steady, yet painful, eradication of the common good and civic duties that are necessary for society to exist, while also marketing the community as separate from nature.

Hype for the Future 51H: The novaTop Policy on Heteronormativity

Preamble

novaTopFlex maintains political influences that often conflict with the dominant narrative of heteronormativity. Unfortunately, significant attacks on the novaTop Identities are often a direct result of heteronormativity, so the best approach is to simply use captions under images and videos that may be most judged. Fear of judgment has been a particular fear at more formal social events, including the more formal dances, as well as more prestigious institutions with a performative display culture.

Official Policy

novaTopFlex shall avoid all types of labels and the performance of such labels, since the societal drama is often related to associated labels in numerous situations. Rather than using labels for people, names should be given out in genuine form, but only when public display of real names is within the social comfort zone. Otherwise, the plain term “network” shall be preferred, with “community” a close second as to what should be preferred.

Signals of heteronormativity are often identified in pictures and videos alike. However, not everything needs to be interpreted from a heteronormative angle. For such people, novaTop photos and videos may provide uncanny feelings for all sorts of people and communities across the board.

The Political Changes of novaTopFlex

My political views overall have changed over time, from enforced heteronormativity and the default gender dynamics and obedience to traditional gender roles to creativity and experimentation while ensuring a more genuine and authentic experience with my personality type and personality traits. Even though I have been scorned for having friends of the opposite sex in my formative years for obvious biological and historical reasons, I have often identified myself having easier communication with such friends and even felt safer in such contexts and situations. Apart from my views on heteronormativity and traditional gender roles, I am no longer the person who sees difference as an issue, and neurodivergence has played a large role in swaying my political views very dramatically from the very beginning.

Hype for the Future 39/284: Cultural Changes Caused by Frank Lloyd Wright

Frank Lloyd Wright was a very significant architect, even changing the cultural identity of architectural design within the United States of America. While, unfortunately, many corporations are unethical and dishonest in the profit motive created by capitalism, Wright was among the most honest of architects in all of American history. Under Wright’s architectural styles, however, honesty was largely within the top priorities with each design. Later in his life, even the Usonian designs were honestly crafted for the appropriate dimensions, with one particular construction in Willoughby Hills notable for vertical dimensions influenced by the intent to serve a family with a 6’8” family member.

Apart from being a major architect throughout his lifetime, Wright was also influential in the creation of just a few fonts, including fonts of particular significance in the style of Frank Lloyd Wright himself. Architecturally, however, he was the person to dramatically change gender and other social roles through architectural design, most notably within the Kaufmann house at Fallingwater and the Frank Lloyd Wright personal estate at Taliesin (a Welsh name, by the way, because of Wrighr’s maternal family, the Lloyd Joneses).

The most notable and interesting countercultural movements in the United States of America are largely identified by LGBTQIA+ culture and heritage traits. While LGBTQIA+ have existed long before such identities have become normalized in society, the historical shunning and taboos continue to linger into the modern day in the vast majority of spaces within the nation. novaTopFlex aspires to network with countercultural hubs, including hubs of movements outside the LGBTQIA+ and intersecting communities. Such communities include the vacation destinations of Provincetown (Ptown), Massachusetts; Fire Island Pines, New York; and Saugatuck, Michigan. Additionally, pockets exist within New York City (NYC), including all boroughs (but especially Manhattan and Brooklyn), Boston (especially in select neighborhoods within the inner city and across the Charles River in Cambridge, Somerville, and Medford), and even the Five Colleges communities of Northampton and Amherst. Although Cambridge is primarily renowned for prestige at Harvard and MIT, even outside the institutions the city remains quite a significant activist community. The same is also true of Somerville and Medford, where Tufts University dominates the cultural scene.

Peer Pressure is a Capitalist Construct

The idea that all individuals must eventually find someone at all is a capitalist construct that literally underscores the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in society. Even in cases where additional freedom is permitted, the idea that singlehood is somehow “taboo” is more or less also a capitalist construct. Again, because “traditional values” are inherently social constructs, while human diversity is extremely important for societal acceptance, development, progress, and advancement.
