Introduction

There is perhaps no city more performative than the City of Las Vegas in the southern portion of the modern State of Nevada! Today, Las Vegas is most famous for a strip, the Las Vegas Strip, that is technically not included within the incorporated city but rather in the community known as Paradise. However, a few other distinctions also exist to separate the community from similarly associated communities nearer the coast, particularly Los Angeles or San Diego.

Climate

Though not the most famous part of the Mojave (Mohave) Desert, the City of Las Vegas is situated on the floor of the desert, with the associated basin often reaching high temperatures typical of desert communities throughout the region. Though Las Vegas is not Death Valley, the community is sometimes compared to the even hotter community and associated areas in San Bernardino County in nearby California.

Attractions

Rarely are there communities of any reasonable size outside the major cities and urban hubs of the State of Nevada, thanks to the vast desert landscapes that hinder statewide settlement patterns. However, in the rare civilizations that exist within the State, the associated communities are often identified as local, regional, or even global powerhouses, with the City of Las Vegas in the final category.

Today, the most notable feature of the City of Las Vegas, though technically not located within city limits by law, is the entirety of the Las Vegas Strip, from near Mandalay Bay and Russell Road to the south to Sahara Boulevard approaching the downtown area to the north. Is the City NSFW?

Society often expects prospective tourists to ask the question, “is Las Vegas an adult city?” In short, the answer is a firm “yes,” with gambling as the primary feature of the Las Vegas Strip and the immediate vicinity in particular, including outside the primary hotels associated with the city. Even though a few associated features, such as pinball, may not necessarily be related to gambling in the modern day, pinball was traditionally considered a game of chance and is still treated as an adult game in the State of South Carolina to this day. Immediately to the south of the Pinball Hall of the Fame is the world-class “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign as well as the Harry Reid International Airport to the east. Within close proximity of the New York-New York Hotel and Casino, of course, is a replica Statue of Liberty model, as well as a collection of iconic bars and restaurants of significant brand names. Even further north, the “Flyover” tourist attraction is associated with the city, providing access to a significant ride as well as a number of shows located nearby. Near ARIA is the living Arte Museum of Las Vegas, and further west are the Illuminarium Las Vegas, the [censored] Heritage Museum, and Chinatown, just to name a few more places.

Downtown Las Vegas

Often underrepresented in the mass media is the downtown area representative of the City of Las Vegas, most notable for hosting the Discovery Children’s Museum, the Mob Museum, the Neon Museum, and the Las Vegas Science and Natural History Museum, as well as Jerry’s Nugget Casino and the Kiel Ranch Historic Site further north. Also located relatively downtown is the Fremont Street Experience, a world-class shopping mall with often more affordable experiences than the premier Las Vegas Strip proper. The Golden Nugget Las Vegas Hotel and Casino is also located within the nearby area.

Introduction

The two largest cities in Australia have largely created a historic rivalry from the earliest days of British colonization as a predominantly penal colony in the modern nation of Australia. When most of the region was part of New South Wales, the penal colony had largely determined the communities of Melbourne (in present-day Victoria) and Sydney (remaining with the State of New South Wales). As the two cities have effectively always been relatively close in population, the City of Canberra has become the stopgap city intended to serve the role of the capital city in Australia, with an intentional urban form that prefers gardens throughout the area of the modern Australian Capital Territory enclave of New South Wales.

Geography

Both the Cities of Melbourne and Sydney are located along the ocean. However, the specific oceans associated with either city are different, with Melbourne ultimately leading toward the Southern Ocean while Sydney ultimately leads toward the South Pacific Ocean. Melbourne is located on the north shore of Port Philip, where the Sorrento Peninsula out to Fort Nepean separates the community from the Bass Strait and thus from the modern island of Tasmania. In comparison, the City of Sydney is located nearer the Tasman Sea portion of the South Pacific Ocean, with the associated Welsh Bay defining the city.

Attractions — Melbourne

Within the City of Melbourne, the most significant of attractions include, but are not limited to, the Shrine of Remembrance, the King George V Monument, the Immigration Museum, the National Gallery of Victoria, the Melbourne Skydeck, and a number of urban contemporary art exhibits and installations. The Scienceworks Museum of Victoria and the University of Melbourne are also highly associated with the city and surrounding area.

Attractions — Sydney

Located further to the northeast along the coastline of Australia, the South Pacific City of Sydney is most notable for the architecture identified within the Sydney Opera House. Besides the Sydney Opera House, the City of Sydney is also home to the Chau Chak Wing Museum, the University of Sydney, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Sydney Tower Eye, the Australian Museum, Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair, and the Hyde Park Barracks, just to name a few. On the west side of the city, Sydney is also home to the Sydney Bus Museum, while the central city is also home to the Australian National Maritime Museum, the SEALIFE Sydney Aquarium, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia for urban interests.

Introduction

New York and Philadelphia are two of the most substantially populated cities in the Northeast Megalopolis and specifically within the Mid-Atlantic portion of the region. While New York is further north and largely associated with the old New Amsterdam and significant Dutch settlement, Philadelphia is located somewhat further south, along the Delaware River, and traditionally identified as New Sweden prior to Dutch control of the former region as part of the Mid-Atlantic region prior to the Quaker settlement that defines the modern Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Geographies

The City of Philadelphia, nicknamed “Philly” and often abbreviated “PHL,” is identified as approximately the location where the Delaware River flows into the beginning of the Delaware Bay, with the inner city on the west (Pennsylvania) side, the later construct of the Twelve Mile Circle separating the core urbanized area from the modern State of Delaware. The more modern constructs of suburban Philadelphia also extend east across the Delaware into New Jersey, as well as into light sprawl associated with similar Quaker heritage in modern-day Cecil County, Maryland.

While the City of Philadelphia is along the Delaware River and near the mouth of such river, the City of New York is officially located first along the East and Hudson Rivers, then nearby to the New York Harbor, then more to the tune of the particular islands in question. Manhattan remains the primary island, with Staten Island representing a separate borough and Long Island representing Brooklyn and Queens. The Bronx, the northernmost of the Five Boroughs of New York City, is actually located not just further inland, but also within the region largely associated with the mainland and derived from the southern portion of old Westchester County.

In Center City Philadelphia, the Benjamin Franklin Parkway is a straightaway diagonally crossing through the street grid from near the city center northwestward, with numerous national flags on both sides of the parkway, including historical national flags as well as modern national flags. From the JFK Plaza northwest to the Washington Monument Fountain and back, the national flags are arranged in alphabetical order, with the flags through approximately Kuwait on the right side of the road heading northwest and approximately Latvia (or possibly Kyrgyzstan) through the end on the left side.

Interesting Landmarks and Places of Boston Explained

Within the City of Boston, city limits are particularly interesting, even though the inner city may not necessarily be the most densely populated in the greater metropolitan area. Although nearby Cambridge and Somerville are at higher population densities than the core city, Boston contains notable landmarks and historical sites as well as modern sites, with the aggregate combination of influences resulting in the modern vibrancy of Boston that continues far beyond the inner city limits in virtually every direction. Such notable sites in the City include Fenway Park, home to the MLB’s Boston Red Sox; Faneuil Hall, notable for historical discussions of American liberty and independence; the Old South Meeting House, largely associated with the Boston Tea Party on December 16, 1773; the modern Italian District of the North End; and numerous historical statues, landmarks, and figurines throughout the City.
