Introduction
The Town of Patten is located in the North Penobscot region of Penobscot County, Maine, well to the north of the City of Bangor. Along Route 11, minimal services are provided in the village, and combined with the outlying area, the 2020 United States Census had recorded the population at approximately 881 residents.
The Village of Patten
Patten, Maine, has a central village area at the northeastern corner of the Town, though as with all other villages in New England outside the State of Vermont, the “village” area is actually a mere census-designated place (CDP) and an unincorporated community within the incorporated Town. In the case of the village of Patten, the services provided to residents and visitors alike are often shared with one another, though for visitors, not much is provided within the central village area of Patten.
Katahdin Brew Works represents the brewery of the village, while Debbies Deli and Pizza represents the sole restaurant of the inner village area. However, for residents, the Patten Cultural Center is on the northern side of the village, with the touristic Bradford House Bed and Breakfast representing the northern edge of the village area.
Outlying Areas
To the north of the inner village on Shin Pond Road west of Route 11 is the Patten Lumbermen’s Museum, while near the southern end of the Town of Patten is a Mount Katahdin Scenic Outlook, slightly closer to the mountain than the Mount Katahdin Scenic Overlook rest area (which has no bathrooms nor other services, by the way) on Interstate 95.
