Preamble
Unfortunately, even in the year 2026, society is stuck in the capitalist loop and the daily grind directly caused by both commodification and the capitalism crisis. Normativity is compulsory by many early definitions of “safety,” encouraging the false assumption of the “middle class.” Heteronormativity in particular is a dangerous feature of modern society, as the notion creates compulsory heterosexuality.
Introduction
Unfortunately, the current measures of “productivity” are unethical and highly extractive and exploitative. Since so many people hate work and related aspects, extreme individualism can easily be identified as the crisis within this wasteful economic system. Commodification and privatization have strictly hurt the community values that humanity continues to depend on, along with the associated moral panics.
Possibilities
The most likely explanation for the situation currently in effect is the coercion forced by capitalist society into creating workers rather than thinkers. The system advertises “freedom,” but effectively gives the population wage slavery, where the supposed “rewards” of work for survival continuously remain exploitative with minimum pay specifically to extract the value upward.
In the anti-work communities such as in the Berkshires, the idea of community value as being intrinsically separate from mainstream value is an explicit organization that enables an increased footprint of artists and musicians throughout the area. Art and music are not “optional,” though society has forced a normative job pipeline that discourages such expression, one of the only possible solutions to freedom of identity and expression.
Ultimately, if life remains for sale, then coercion will naturally remain a result—and an unethical one, in that matter. Therefore, life shall not be identified as “for sale” under radical reforms, many of which do not need to be labeled “socialist” nor any other term at all.
