Most of the population of the island of Taiwan, claimed by the Republic of China but disputed with the People’s Republic of China as per the One-China Policy, is actually limited to the western side of the island. The eastern side of the island of Taiwan is identified as significantly more sparsely populated for reasons strictly related to geography and climatology, while the overwhelming majority of the population is constrained to the west side of the island, where conditions are often more conducive to life and to large-scale settlement in particular.
