Introduction
The Town of Skowhegan is the county seat of Somerset County, Maine, located in the southern portion of the county. Located in the west-central portion of the State, the Town of Skowhegan is known for hosting the Skowhegan State Fair every August, notable (in some accounts) for being among the oldest continuously operating state fairs in the United States.
Places of Interest
The Town of Skowhegan hosts a central hotel at the Skowhegan by Kasa as well as the Skowhegan History House Museum shortly to the northwest. The Skowhegan State Fairgrounds are located north of the central town area and can be compared with the Bangor State Fairgrounds located by Bangor’s Paul Bunyan Statue further east.
Town of Norridgewock
The Town of Norridgewock is located just to the west of Skowhegan along U.S. Route 2, with the Norridgewock Historical Society centrally located within town.
