Introduction

Within Australia, the City of Canberra serves as the national capital, though much of the nation is hostile to human settlement, particularly within the Australian interior and the northern end of the nation. As the only nation in the world to truly span a continent, if Australia could be referred to as a continent specifically, the nation is divided into six (6) states and two (2) internal territories within the mainland, though the island of Tasmania is slightly separated from the mainland largely opposite the State of Victoria.
