Hype for the Future 62N: Town of Littleton, Maine

Introduction

The Town of Littleton is located at the southern end of Aroostook County, Maine, and is home to the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum. Traditionally, the most notable feature of agriculture in the Aroostook Valley was specifically potato farming as was appropriate for the climate of the region. Southern Aroostook was very similar to much of the eastern portion of the County in terms of cultural heritage, yet quite distinct from the culture of the Saint John Valley or the Acadian heritage of the region.

Solar System Model

Along United States Route 1, the University of Maine-Presque Isle has featured a solar system model for highway travelers, showcasing the relative distances of the planet from a baseline relatively close to the area where UMaine-Presque Isle reaches Route 1. The highway is largely two lanes in the region, particularly in the more rural areas, and is predominantly directed from north to south.

Hype for the Future 20A: Vershire, Vermont

Vershire, Vermont, located in the east-central part of the State of Vermont, is home to the VerShare collective project and hostel, though restaurants are very scarce in the surrounding region and the terrain may also be hostile for agricultural or even the safer horticultural practices. VerShare is also the nickname of the Stagecoach Stop Hostel, which hosts—and serves—the communal preferences of the Town of Vershire in Orange County. On a side note, Vershire is actually a portmanteau of the names of “Vermont” and nearby “New Hampshire” to the east.

Hype for the Future 16/284: Knowledge Corridor?

Within the Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts and down along the Connecticut River into the Greater Hartford region of Connecticut is the Knowledge Corridor, a region largely identified by a high concentration of intellectual knowledge, particularly with the Five Colleges Consortium in and around Northampton, Amherst, and South Hadley in Hampshire County, Massachusetts. In Franklin County to the north is an environment and culture more akin to Vermont, and particularly more akin to such places as Brattleboro and Bellows Falls (the latter in the Town of Rockingham). To the south is Hampden County, home to the birthplace of basketball in Springfield and the birthplace of volleyball in Holyoke as well as Dr. Seuss exhibits in the former. Not much else exists in the latter city; however, Mount Holyoke is nearby (in the South Hadley area), and the city is named for Elizur Holyoke. Even further south is the State of Connecticut, where Hartford is renowned for the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, one of the North American Reciprocal Museums.
