Location
The location of the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in the City of North Adams, Berkshire County, Massachusetts, is highly noted for matching the energy of novaTopFlex by way of being physically located in a more liberal part of the nation, which may often override the fears associated with societal norms and traditional roles. Since novaTopFlex often depicts real-life experiences rather than experiences specifically curated to fit social norms, the importance of location is particularly relevant because of the inevitable risk of harassment that occurs with the violation of prescribed social roles.
Amenities
If the Prom Experience of novaTopFlex could be exhibited at the MASS MoCA, lodging would, as in most situations, be available nearby at the Porches Inn slightly north of the primary museum location. Outside the campus of the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, which already maintains amenities regarding food and drink in numerous areas as well as vending areas in other zones, novaTopFlex recommends extending interests into the following nearby locations:
- Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, hosts their art exhibits at a designated art museum site simply named the Williams College Museum of Art (approximately 9 minutes / 5.1 miles to MASS MoCA).
- Also in the Town of Williamstown is the Clark Art Institute, a distinct institution that combines a higher educational setup for art with a nontraditional art gallery site setup. Relative to the Williams College campus, the Clark Art Institute is located further southwest (approximately 14 minutes / 6.3 miles to MASS MoCA).
- Almost directly south of the MASS MoCA site is the Birthplace of Susan B. Anthony in the Town of Adams, Berkshire County, Massachusetts, for which women’s rights can be honored in the context of American history (approximately 11 minutes / 6.5 miles to MASS MoCA).
- The W. E. B. Du Bois National Historic Site, located on the opposite (south) side of Berkshire County in Great Barrington, is often identified as a separate marker of progressive history, except in terms of racial tensions rather than on the basis of sex, gender, orientation, or other markers of diversity (approximately 66 minutes / 43 miles to MASS MoCA).
- The Roosevelt National Historic Sites, in particular the sites of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and of Eleanor Roosevelt, are of tremendous interest to novaTopFlex for historical reasons regarding New Netherland and the regional pledge to plurality in terms of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Though the National Historic Sites are both in Hyde Park, Dutchess County, New York, the locations are clearly distinct entities with separate purposes even in spite of being associated with Roosevelt history. The Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site is approximately 117 minutes / 95 miles to MASS MoCA, while the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site is approximately 126 minutes / 92 miles to MASS MoCA.
More loosely related to the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art though still related to the Prom Experience of novaTopFlex are the art organizations of Art Omi (approximately 70 minutes / 50 miles to Mass MoCA) and the Wassaic Project (approximately 109 minutes / 79 miles to MASS MoCA). National Historical Parks with related interests to the arts and crafts of interest include the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park in the Town of Woodstock, Windsor County, Vermont (approximately 155 minutes / 97 miles to MASS MoCA), the Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park of the Cornish Art Colony in the Town of Cornish, Sullivan County, New Hampshire (approximately 128 minutes / 93 miles to MASS MoCA); and the Weir Farm National Historical Park in the Towns of Wilton and Ridgefield in Fairfield County, Connecticut (approximately 165 minutes / 116 miles to MASS MoCA). All three (3) are located in locations of elevated artistic interest relative to the surrounding areas of association.
